Zalgo text is created by stacking multiple Unicode combining diacritics above, below, and through each character, producing text that appears to be corrupted, glitching, or "bleeding" visually. The medium intensity version on this site applies 4 combining characters above and below each letter — enough to create a clearly disturbing visual effect while remaining technically readable.

The name "Zalgo" comes from an internet creepypasta about a corrupting entity. Zalgo text became a widespread internet meme and creative tool in the late 2000s and continues to be used for horror aesthetics, glitch art, troll content, and any context where "corrupted data" is the desired visual theme.

Discord is the primary home of heavy Zalgo text — horror servers, creepypasta communities, and experimental text channels regularly use it. Very heavy Zalgo can break Discord's line-height rendering, causing extreme visual overflow that some users find disorienting (which is often intentional).

Twitter glitch-art accounts, horror fiction writers, and meme accounts use Zalgo for atmospheric effect. A tweet in zalgo text immediately signals "horror" or "corrupted" without any image needed.

Instagram uses zalgo more sparingly — usually as an accent in Halloween content, dark aesthetic profiles, and horror creator bios. Very heavy zalgo in an Instagram bio can be hard to read, so the light version is generally more practical.
